How to Install an Awning on a House

An Awning is outside devices that are often used to provide safety from the heat or windy climate. Normally located over doors and windows an awning may be constructing of metal or some type of hardwearing fabric. Better versions of the canopy are sometimes utilized to provide cover up for patio areas all along the back of a home.

Awnings serve a multitude of purposes from practical to decorative. They come in various styles, materials and operations. They are a good aid in conserving energy by blocking the sun in the summer and keeping the wetness and dampness out in the winter. They are simple to install and easy to use. Awnings can offer a relatively simple way of cutting down on your utility bills and adding an attractive touch to your home. Awning kits come complete with all hardware and can be found at most stores that sell outdoor accessories.

Warnings and Tips

Take the time to picking awning and make sure you are happy with the colors and fabric.

When you purchased awning, as soon as you get your home, make sure the box contains everything programmed by the manufacturer.

When taking into consideration the height for the awning, make sure no part of the awning interferes with the working of windows or doors.

Be sure to inquire about the appropriateness of the material of your awning for the climate in which you live.

Instructions

1. Determine the location and height you want for your awning and mark this with the felt marking pen on the outside wall of your house.

2. Use a stud finder to locate a structural support to affix the awning to the wall.

3. Remove all the pieces from the box and lay them out neatly in the order of the manufacturer's instructions for installation.

4. Use the stud finder to locate the proper place to affix the mounting brackets that will be in the awning kit.

5. Install the mounting brackets at the distance apart recommended by the manufacturer.

6. Install the awning hood onto the brackets.

7. Take the awning bar and insert into the brackets and then tighten the fasteners whether they are screws or bolts.

Awnings are large and heavy, so you will need another person to help you with the final part of the installation. When the awning is no longer needed, it retracts with the push of a button on the remote control. Instead of paying the dealer to install your awning, you can save money by doing it yourself.  It is not unusual for aluminum awnings to be coated with some sort of protective agent, such as baked enamel.

1. An awning is usually attached to the out of a building whereas a canopy can be free standing.

2. Both of these have similar purpose which is to give shelter but there is one big difference. The distinction is that canopies are free standing coverings. On the other hand, awnings are positioned like an out window or door extension.

3. Awnings are meant to be installed as a permanent structure on your home for shade year-round; something Arizona residents need anyway. Canopies, on the other hand, often have to be disassembled when not in use.

4. A key difference with awnings is that they may also be used to offer shelter or shade near entrances to buildings.

5. They influence your home's temperatures are frequently concerned with. Because awnings provide shade around your windows, the amount of the heat resulting from that sunlight is greatly reduced.

6. Awnings are always attached to a building and may be fabric, wood, or canvas. Other than when talking about airplanes, I believe a canopy always refers to a canvas or cloth covering, tent-like, that is free-standing, unless being used figuratively to describe the same effect being given by something else.

You probably already have most of the items that you need around your home or in your garage. A neglected awning can become an eyesore, detracting from your home's overall appeal. Most canvas awnings will need to be thoroughly cleaned once or twice a year, with occasional attention given to keeping its surface free of airborne debris or plant materials between cleanings.
