A 4-year-old boy was rescued by awning on Monday after accidentally falling out of a second-story window at his home, as reported.
Apparently, the boy was trying to get a glimpse of his mom, who was in the backyard feeding the family's dogs. He leaned on the screen and the screen gave way. The boy landed on concrete and may have scraped against a wooden awning on the way down, Burgara said.
The boy was admitted to Peace Health Southwest Medical Center, but apparently got only minor injuries.
Vancouver firefighters recommend families install protective window awnings in second-story rooms to prevent children from falling out.
Most deaths resulting from window falls occur during spring and summer, according to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Kids who fall from windows are most likely to be boys, younger than 3 and unsupervised.
The child's name was not released.
